Show Puppies
Sedoso
dogs are bred for one purpose and that
purpose is breed type. We aren't one of those breeders
that put two dogs together because "they are so pretty."
If you are seeking a puppy born to no purpose, to dogs that
haven't been health tested and lack breed type, you won't be
happy with our puppies.
If, however, you are seeking a healthy puppy
for pet or show, bred to be the best representative of the breed
it can be.......well then you came to the right place.
What sets our puppies apart is breed type.
All of our puppies have shoulder layback ≥
30°.
In dog lingo that means our layback is
moderate to elegant. Our breed standard calls for a
moderately arched neck with layback not to exceed 40° and that's
just what you get with one of our puppies. When you look
at our dogs you'll see the neck isn't just stuck on the end of a
long body. Our dogs have balance and a moderately arched
neck. We do it on purpose because it's supposed to be that
way.
Our puppies have the proper
silky coat. Now every breeder in the country will tell you
their Havanese has a silky coat, but there is a difference.
Some Havanese have a cottony coat instead of a silky coat.
When you feel our silky coat, you'll notice the difference
quickly. If you are never around the proper coat type it's
easy to get the two confused because both are soft. A
silky coat has a very slight soft undercoat. It is almost
like no undercoat at all; and serves to only hold the topcoat
away from the skin. If you visited Cuba, you wouldn't find
a Havanese that looks like it was plugged into an electrical
socket. Ours
are silky on purpose.
Our puppies have the correct
almond shaped eye. It's important to have an almond shaped
eye in this breed......not just because our breed standard
demands it, but because without it, you run the risk of
shortening the muzzle length and changing the face of the dog.
The only way you can get an almond eye is by paying attention to
the little things. Just like everything else in life, it's
the little things that count. Sedoso Havanese have almond
shaped eyes on purpose.
Our puppies have the correct
topline. We breed dogs with short upper arms to get our
proper topline. When you look at a Sedoso dog, you'll see
the rear is higher than the shoulders. Because our Breed
Standard calls for it, we do it on purpose.
Our puppies are bred to not
have genetic deficiencies. Not that all are perfect.
But if you start with healthy dogs, who have been screened
against diseases that effect our breed; and have been screened
that way for generations........that's like stacking the deck in
our favor. We do that on purpose.
The quality of Sedoso puppies
can be seen in their relatives too. Dottie's sister and
grandfather are 2 of only 3 Best in Show Havanese in the US,
ever. Her sister also won Best of Breed at the 2005
Havanese Club of America National Specialty. While Jake
has won Best of Breed 6 out of his last 13 shows, he's
relatively young. His Great Grandsire is one of the top producing
Havanese in the world. His Grandsire won the Havanese
Nationals in 2003 as well as Best of Breed at Westminster the
same year. His Sire is almost finished growing out his
cords and will hit the show ring next year. It should be
fun watching Sonic and Jake in the ring together.
So thanks for visiting. I
hope you learned enough to want to check out our site in more
detail. If you'd like to inquire about a show puppy
