Jake
is out of CH Bydand Start Me Up (Sonic) and Ch. Bydand Ms Panda
By Lejerdell (Panda). Jake is a product of the Bydand breeding
program. His great grandsire (CH Salemi Charly) is the top
Havanese stud in the US (as of this writing), his grandsire is Ch. Bydand Elfin Magic
(Keebler).
Among Havanese lovers that
name says it all. If you are just learning about this breed,
Keebler is the top Havanese Show Dog in the US this year. Jake's sire is
the culmination of the Bydand breeding program. True to form, Sonic produces
wonderful get. Jake exemplifies Havanese "type" in that he's a
walking, talking picture of the Havanese standard.
Jake went to finishing school
with Barb Beissel for a month in January of 2005 and came home
with three 5 point majors and our first Champion. Now,
there was never any doubt about his receiving a Championship,
but it was our first and made it oh so special.

Jake
is slightly longer than tall with short loin, a perfect
topline and a flawless tailset. His topline comes from an
appropriately short upper arm and moderate shoulder layback.
In fact, Jake has moderate angles all the way around, and is
equal from withers to elbow and elbow to foot. Like his
father, he has a broad pelvis and strong short hocks. When
viewed from the rear he has the desired, but not often found,
"horse-shoe" shape and all joints are
clearly in line.
He
has a wonderful head as well. His muzzle is rectangular,
with a moderate stop
and a broad back-skull. In a breed where eye shape
is
important, Jake has the desired almond eye. This is extremely
important in light of the many "round eye" Havanese being seen
in the ring today. It's understandable though. Round
eyes are easy to breed. To get the almond eye our breed
standard calls for you must must pay attention to the small
details.
Jake is 10" tall at the
withers and 10½" tall at the rump. He is
10½" long when
measured from the top of his shoulders to the set on of tail.
He weighs 10lbs.
Jake's
personality is just like his grandfather's and father's:
bulletproof. We have to wake him up to get him to the ring
at dog shows. At home he's playful and loving.
Always wanting to either chase a ball or have his belly
scratched. In fact, we frequently have to frisk
visitors
to make sure they
haven't
taken our Jake. He's never met a
person he didn't like.
Currently, we
are growing his adult coat out in preparation of his "Specials"
career. After Nationals this year we'll begin cording him.
Look for
him in 2006!
Oh yeah, and he also makes a very nice
throw pillow on our couch <grin>.
